vintage Fontana Fabrics (Sorelle Fontana) psychedelic silk trousers suit 1960s Italy
Vibrant luxe Italian flared trousers and matching short sleeved top set with sash, in a very pucci-esque print, by Fontana Fabrics. I have a feeling this was a line introduced by Sorelle fontana for the US market (I purchased the set in America some years ago, along with another from the same owner) but I have struggled with much research as my Italian isn't the best.
The top buttons to the rear with self covered buttons, and the trousers to the side with a side metal zipper hidden in the seam.
Trousers are slightly bell bottom; I'd date the outfit to the mid 60s? It's very much of it's era! I can't decide if the sash is intended as a neck scarf or headband, as it does have a central seam but that hidden when tied. Backed in a bold contrasting blue silk, I've shown it both as a sash at the waist and on a mannequin head just so you can see length - but it does look quite fitting worn as a headscarf!
Blouse: bust 36" max inc darts
waist 31' (unfitted but slightly shaped)
s-h length 19"
Trousers: fitted waist 26"
front rise 11 3/4"
inseam just over 27"
side seam outer 38"
circ. of flare approx 26"
Sash: Length 56" max
Width a little over 4"
- A couple of lines in the weave of the fabric by the zip, as shown.
- Very very faint underarm yellowing in a small area to one side only. I daren't send this to my dry cleaner as they're just not great with delicate vintage, unfortunately, and I didn't want to attempt to clean myself. Its very hard to see!
- couple marks to the blue side of the sash as shown
Otherwise very good.

Quite a rare find, and an impressive design! The two suits together were estimated at £400-600 for auction last year, and I've since sold the first one I listed.
