Vintage Afghan traditional embroidered and embellished cotton dress c.1970s
Traditional Afghan dress, and authentic c.1970s Afghan version brought back by a traveller, as opposed to those designed for western import and sold in boutiques.
As such it has been well worn, and the construction is fairly basic – however it still has some beautiful elements.
I have had this hanging in my studio for a while, it’s too small for the mannequin (possibly a teens size as still a good length and full length sleeves?) as there is no side access or opening. You may be able to squeeze into it if you’re more flexible than a mannequin, but I am too cold today to try!
There have been some old repairs made to the top of the shoulders at some point in the past using a synthetic material, and I was intending to take a good look at it but now I just need to empty my old studio..
You could possible add a longer opening to the rear, the drawstring usually opens at the bust level but the gathers at empire line seem fixed - although there is a drawstring.. Not sure what’s going on and haven’t time to investigate, so selling for you to either hang and admire or alter into a wearable piece?
So many lovely textiles here, front panel is great and I love the bullion trims.
Bust 30” around bottom of panel
Hips free as huge skirts
Length from nape to hem approx 44”
underarm to cuff 21.5”
shoulder to shoulder approx 15” but no seams
As above. Please see photos. Have not cleaned, some age discolouration inside bodice. I can’t see any damage aside from general wear.
Please note, I will always combine postage where possible and refund any overages over £1. Please ask if you’re unsure.
Postage to the US has increased recently so apologies for the high price! I send everything tracked, and will send your reference once your order has been posted - along with any refunds owed.
