Late 1920s to early 30s Art Deco bold printed cotton wide leg lounging set
I’ve owned this set for nearly twenty years, and it’s been packed away and never worn by me (just taken out to look at occasionally!) At one point I was going to take a pattern from it, as it’s such a great simple shape, but I never got around to it.
It’s one of the best Art Deco prints I’ve seen, colours are wonderful ice cream shades mixed with bold graphics. I’m reluctantly parting as I think it’s time someone else got to own it for a bit!
It’s homesewn, with a basic but functional level of finish.
The top slips over the head, with two front patch pockets. Belt loops but no belt, I think some orange cotton could be used to make one!
The trousers have a draw string waist with small side opening which is just hand stitched. You could open more if needed I suppose.
Generally they are immediately wearable. There are a couple of spots that didn’t come out when I cool hand washed them, but I am too afraid to soak as thus far have avoided any colour run!
I’ve circled all the little flaws I found, in the photos, and described below.
Measures: should fit a modern 8 to maybe 10 - it’s down to the bust and waist measurement really - you need smaller than 38” hips to get waist opening on trousers up and over them, or you could extend the side opening to fit a larger hip for access (hope that makes sense).
top is; bust 36” max inc darts / waist 38” / hips max 42” / shoulder to hem approx 23.5”
trousers are: drawstring waist max 36”/ hips 44”/ inseam 22”/rise 18”/ outer leg 38”
Condition: I’ve circled everything in photos!
Just handwashed, a few spots as shown near back hem leg.
Some very slight fade/crease lines to shoulders.
Slight fade to central blue panel.
Pull in fabric one leg.
Small (a few mm) right angle tear other leg - no missing fabric.
Little misprint to pattern as shown.
odd missing stitch at side seam.
missing belt (could remove loops or remake plain one).
untidy stitching/purely functional finish to drawstring and channel.
Nothing major, and nothing that really affects the overall appearance.
