1920s vintage floral lamé cocoon style kimono cut evening jacket with fringe
Superbly glamorous, this cocoon shaped evening jacket or cape has kimono style sleeves, and a deep rayon fringe. I *think* the fringe and possibly collar/cuffs are replacements, but if so they're no later than the 70s as still have age. I wonder if the original edging was silk and perished.. anyway, it works well as it is and does not look mismatched - just wanted to point it out!
I did, however, add an antique toggle and frog style fastener, because the jacket had silk ties which had perished slightly. Please see photo's.
The back of the jacket has shaping darts to the neckline, and the bottom edge has a scalloped trim. It's really fab, but was hard to demonstrate on a mannequin with straight arms!
Clearly not a fitted item, I'd say Small to Medium. Shown on a UK8 mannequin
Across shoulders is roughly 17"
Across front (when fastened) gap between the arm openings is 13"
Nape of neck to bottom of lamé is 35", while nape to neck to bottom of fringing is 50"
- As mentioned above I think it has possibly had historic repairs
- Lamé is undamaged as far as I can see
- small pulls to seam with edging/lamé joining in sleeve corners as shown, but stable
- one pull to centre back 'scallop' where fringe attached to rayon
All pictured, so please do study photos. It's really pretty and immediately wearable as it comes, even with the minor noted flaws.
