Early 1930s summer garden party dress - drop waisted crepe floral print
Very carefully home tailored I'd say as so many were. A pretty early 1930s summer dress in what feels looks in texture like a type of crepe de chine, but not a silk - something a little sturdier, with a matte finish. It has a lovely floral print throughout.
Curved yoke, flutter sleeves, and a dropped waist with geometric seaming, which drops at right angles from front to back, when the dress is viewed side on (see photo). Self fabric belt with MOP buckle.
Perfect with a wide brimmed straw hat. Could happily be worn without fear of pulling the fabric, so in a way an easier choice than a chiffon!
Measures: Shown on a UK8 mannequin unclipped. I'd say it's a modern UK8 or possibly a 10 depending on bust.
Bust 34" max including darts
Waist 32" laid flat but bias cut so hangs to fit/belted to fit
Hips 38" max
waist to hem 46" approx
- Smudge to collar neckline, and to lower back hem. Look like storage dirt and should lift, has been washed. See photo.
- Thin aged lines in weave front bodice where I'm pointing in photo
- Very faint spot lower front skirt, again I'm pointing at it!
Generally condition is very good, no underarm marks, and it's immediately wearable and certainly event worthy! Ready to wear.
