Antique Victorian bookchain collar necklace w/ silver plated ‘AIE’ sentimental locket
A good bit of antique ‘costume’ jewellery, as it were. A bookchain, which would originally had another small section suspended, then the locket, which is long gone - it does still have its wonderfully large bolt ring however!
Locket is silver plate, and has the interlocked acronym of AIE for ‘amity, infinity, eternity’.
Measures: locket is 2” high including bale. Chain is approx 17” circ.
Condition: I’ve paired the two as both are base metal (plated to the locket), and both have signs of wear - but I thought they went together well.
There is some tarnish to brass book chain to the rear mainly - see close up.
The plate has rubbed through wear on the locket, revealing the base metal below at edges. Also, the pin is a little loose in the hinge so you occasionally have to slide it up a fraction before closing to keep it closed. It does function though, and should stay closed. It’s a little more worn than the chain but looks a fair match, I hope.
I’d happily wear as it comes.
