Late 1940s cerise polka dot and stripe housecoat or gown - maternity or not
Rather good, this was worn as a maternity dressing gown; as you can see the belt can be worn in a number of ways depending on if you need it to be smock like, or fitted.
In a nice crisp cotton, with a pale pink stripe and cerise polka dots. 3/4 length sleeves with rever cuffs and big patch pockets.
I replaced the buttons (as the originals had been removed) with some old stock 40s ones. There is a small tear in the front later behind one of the buttons, where the hasty removal caused damage I guess.. it's hidden now but have photographed it for you.
Measures: Labelled a 36, it is a smock style unless belted so fairly capacious in bust and below.
Bust max 44" flat
Underarm to cuff 9"
Waist max 60"
Hips max 70"
Shoulder to hem 53" - I think the hem has been let down and I have left it dropped in case you wanted it longer, there's a small machined hem at the very bottom so it's not a raw edge.
Condition: Clean and ready to wear - I've photographed any flaws.
Old owners name in neckline from maternity hospital (purchased from her lovely daughter!)
- Buttons are replacements and tear behind as mentioned (unseen)
- small hand-done repairs corners of rever cuffs
- small repair machined edge of one pocket
