Late 1960s to 1970s vintage Salvador London metallic tunic dress jacket or top - W1 British Boutique
Excellent quality, Salvador was seemingly a high end British boutique label, seen featured in Harper’s and Queen etc. I bought this along with a Jean Patou suit etc. from the same owner/wardrobe.
I’ve tried to research a bit more over the years but struggled. I have found mention of the label in relation to the London Design Council in the 1970s, as they apparently met at offices at the label’s Bridle Lane premises. Jan Van Velden and other notable designers worked at/with the label in the 1970s. If you have more information I’d love to know!
Salvador seemed to specialise in luxe fabrics, silk particularly from what I found.
Fabric of this is woven with metallic design, part feels like it has some silk content (alaskine type wool/silk?) - fully lined. Hand finishing to satin binding, hand set zip. Nehru collar, flared sleeves and eastern styling.
Front metal full zip opening/closure, decorative frogging to neck and to the flared sleeves, which have slits to echo the hemline. If it weren’t for the slits around the bottom hem I would have described it as mini dress - it is in length.
I imagine this would originally have had a coordinating slim black pair of trousers, which will be very easy to replicate!
Measures: approx 8 or smaller uk10 as quite a fitted style.
Bust 34” (36” max with darts - it’s a fitted style)
Nape to hem 33”
Underarm to hem sleeve is 17 1/2”
Across back between seams 14”
Appears to have had minimal wear. Vgc.
