quality c1860s reproduction bodice / jacket - living history Victorian reenactment
I don't normally buy recent costume or reproductions, but this is such nice quality I think it's a worthy listing which will hopefully be of use to someone who is looking for wearable period dress.
Shoulder detail and angled front darts are typical 1860s features, but the the condition would suggest it is a much later model - I think a relatively modern reproduction produced as accurately as possible. More period drama than panto, as the attention to detail is exemplary.
Silk taffeta type oyster to ivory outer fabric, backed with what feels like a silk sateen. Piped detail to dropped shoulders, pagoda sleeves with darting detail at elbow. Fringed tab work at end of sleeves and echoed around the hemline.
It’s a combination of machine stitching and fine hand finishing, oversewn finish on seams etc. Fastens edge to edge with a front overlap on the hip basque, with more recent (but still traditional) press studs and hooks and eyes.
It’s an incredibly accurate reproduction - the benefit of this of course is the more 'modern' sizing! It must have taken quite some time to produce, and much care has been taken.
High waist 34”
Across back between seams 26”
Nape to hem 20”
Roughly 3/4 pagoda sleeves
Generally excellent, small make up mark to inner collar and smudge to front bodice - have not attempted to remove or clean. I’ve shown all the small marks. Very top of stiffening visible as has moved in dart - see photo. Otherwise really very good and, as mentioned above, very neatly done.
