Substantial scrolling Georgian unmarked silver large antique buckle with old paste stones
A really lovely thing, I’ve gazed at it for long enough. I think this would look wonderful on a vintage or vintage inspired wedding dress.
The shape is slightly Art Nouveau, but the construction of the forks etc. points to much earlier. I’m not in any way an expert but after much amateur sleuthing it does look 18th century, certainly Georgian.
The stones appear to be ‘old cut’ and are foil/closed back.
Measures 3” x 2” approx
Unmarked but acid tests strongly for silver at the rear. I’ve not polished it, but you could if you wished - currently has a very dark original patina.
Condition: very good, but I think there may be a couple of replacement stones. One certainly is (very top centre as shown), and I noticed one bottom centre right that looks a little out of place if you inspect it closely.
They’re not obvious, and it could certainly be carefully put to use immediately.
Will post securely with modern gift pouch.
