ON LAYAWAY Vintage late 1930s full length evening dress in oriental green and metallic printed cloqué fabric
Late 1930’s evening dress with ‘floating’ side panels, over a relatively straight full length skirt relieved with cb kick pleat. Both skirt and panels are mounted on a light buckram to give additional structure and shape.
The bodice is typical of the period, with a lightly defined sweetheart neckline and deep v to rear. Fastens below this v with a series of small press studs, and hooks and eyes. Tie belt in self fabric to natural waist, fastening to rear which completes the back interest.
Measures:
Condition:
Generally good, clean and immediately wearable.
- Small repair to back fastening using original fabric.
- Front bodice right hand side I found two small repairs to slits in the fabric, near the darts, has been overseen onto buckram for stability? - fabric integrity seems good overall so think accidental damage rather than deterioration. Luckily it’s a textured printed fabric so not so obvious.
- Some slight colour variation between side panels and lower hemline when held together (see photo) but does not appear to be faded and certainly does not detract.
- Very faint watermark to inner underarm lining, but generally the lining is undamaged and unmarked.
