1930s vintage art deco printed bias cut velvet day to evening dress with lantern sleeves
SOLD
Earlier 1930s vintage printed bias cut velvet day to evening dress, with lantern sleeves. Very pretty mid brown velvet background with pink floral repeat pattern.
The bodice features an asymmetric mock neckerchief trim to neckline, with side neck bow. The sleeves are full and heavily puffed lantern style with godets. Original working elastic to cuffs, and finished internally with a tonal satin binding which is also found at the hem.
Currently no side opening, and simply slips over the head as bias cut.
It came to me with a fixed half belt to rear with attached decorative non-opening buckle, which I think was a later addition. As the buckle didn't undo, it made access tricky due to lack of side opening.. I have unpicked and restored what I imagine it would have had originally.
**Please note that I just used a slide buckle on the mannequin to demonstrate, but have since found a nice deco glass two part buckle/fastener that is more appropriate. Shown laid flat. I'll include both - I've just pinned the belt in place for now so you can decide on your desired fit, then just need to attach with a few tacking stitches!**
Such a lovely silhouette.
Measures:
Bust 36" inc darts
Waist 31" at match stretch, so need to be able to squeeze bust through this - I’d be tempted to add some side snaps
Hips bias cut to 44"
Length from nape to hem approx 52"
Condition:
Aside from above mentioned belt adjustment mid photo, nothing to note! I was sure I'd seen an old mend (line of approx 1" ) but I can't see it so may have been on a different garment.. or it's hard to spot if there! Ready to wear.
