vintage sapphire blue 1950s full skirted dress - geometric corded net overlay
A typically 1950s shape. The dress consists of a top layer of mesh or net which is decorated with bands of satin cord. This cording is arranged in horizontal bands to the skirt, and is used cleverly on the bodice to accentuate the flattering bust and shoulder lines.
There is an integral full sleeveless slip, with full skirt. This creates an illusion type top to the bodice and shoulders. The neckline is bateau style, which extends into capped sleeves. Fitted waist and the overskirt is a full circle, so plenty of material to swish around whilst dancing!
Fastens to the side with a metal zip.
No label, although would assume it has been commercially or custom made due to the finish. Pinked seams, hand rolled hem to lining etc.,
Measures:
Bust 36" including shaped cup room
Waist 26"
Hips free
Bodice nape to waist 15"
Length from nape to hem approx 48"
Condition:
Immediately wearable - just cleaned.
The lining does have some very slight dye variation but this unseen through the overlay and doesn't detract.
The cord has rubbed slightly in places, mainly to rear bodice and top bands of skirt, where I assume a cardigan has been worn against it. This means there are some irregular raised fibres and loose strands when you inspect it more closely, but none of the actual design is missing or damaged.
You can trim them off with sharp scissors (I did a few then realised that life is too short..)
I found two tiny slits in the mesh which I have photographed.
