early 1930s vintage printed floral silk chiffon tiered ruffle dress with eau de nil crepe lining
Beautiful example of early 1930s style, a muted repeat printed silk chiffon overlay features circles and small flowers. This is backed with an underlap in eau de nil coloured crepe.
No label, but very well made to a high standard, with much hand finishing throughout. Not an easy task on such a fine fabric! Easier access than some, with side snaps extending up to underarm.
The body of the dress is suspended from the shoulders using a more durable rayon type support fabric in a matching shade. Over this is a sleeveless hanging bodice in the printed chiffon, with ruffled hem and hand rolled armsyces and neckline.
Measures:
Bust 32" with a little extra give for bosom, so approx 34" with darts
Waist up to 30" as loose fit
Hips 39" max comfortable measurement
Length from shoulder to hem approx 52"
Condition:
Generally very good, particularly considering age and materials used. Luckily due to the easy fitting nature, the underarms do not appeared to have suffered.
There is the occasional snag and pull to the silk chiffon, I've photographed as best I can so please study photographs. A few tiny hand done repairs to hanging over-bodice shoulders.
I think hand stitching at drop waist original?
There is some faint colour variation to the eau de nil lining, which I only saw when I turned the dress inside out to measure and check underarms etc. It’s not at all obvious externally.
Certainly still a wearable piece (with care for the fabric!)
