I’d intended to frame this but will never get around to it... a vibrant design by Michaele (later Michael) Vollbracht.

It’s hard to spot the signature in such a busy design, but it’s just along the left hand side of one of the girls dresses above the ‘tears on my pillow’ text! I love how much he has managed to fir into the illustration, and in such a 70s style!

The rock and roll cultural explosion of the 1950s is wonderfully depicted; the same scarf features in the schiffer ‘Fabulous Fifties’ book.

A renowned illustrator in his own right, but he was first and foremost a fashion designer. A Coty award winning fashion designer under his own label during the late 70s, and prior to that he designed for a clutch of renowned US fashion houses and high end department stores (Donald Brooks, Geoffrey Beene, Bengel, Bloomingdales).

He was head designer at Bill Blass .. all of this you may already know but makes for an interesting read if you don’t!

This must be pre-1985, as he dropped the end from his name, so possibly his own label collaborating with the scarf producer Glentex?

The scarf is not perfect when you inspect it closely, as there is faint colour bleed into the rear Cory background, the odd faded or misprinted mark to the design, and a pinhead sized spot to the hem. It’s slightly shiny so apologies if some of the photo’s look a little two tone. At a cursory glance it is still vibrant and presents well, and would be fine for collecting or wear - but please study the photos carefully.

It’s a great take on the decade by a notable designer and illustrator, and is structurally fine.. but please be aware of the various small imperfections.

If it was perfect it’s such a great thing I would have asked more, but have tried to price accordingly!
