‘Jean Patou, Tailored in London’ c.1960s black silk/wool mohair blend two piece skirt suit
Classic balenciaga influenced suit. It has a semi fitted waist length jacket, fly fronted with small stand collar and patch pockets to front of jacket. The cuffs are decorated with a geometric mosaic style bead, edged with a tinsel thread embroidery outline. The material feels like a silk with some wool.
Straight skirt, loose lined with side metal invisible zip fastener - appears original to garment so early incarnation? The designer could potentially either be Karl Lagerfeld or Michel Goma - who both designed for the House of Patou during this period. I’d date it mid to late 60s. I’ve done a cursory search trying to find an example to date it exactly and failed, so will leave that to the new owner.
Couture detailing such as covered press studs, bound buttonholes on fly front fastening, and hand felled lining.

Condition:
Externally very good. Minor flaws as follows, which don’t affect the overall look.
- I think the jacket is possibly missing some beads on the inner cuff, but it’s symmetrical if so.
- the underarm lining has residue of deodorant at both sides. The suit has been cleaned and it lifted the majority of it, but it was quite heavily marked. A small amount can be seen in the very crease of the underarm on one side (you’d struggle to ever see this when worn!)
- can’t decide if there’s a little rub ashes net to the hook and eye on the skirt fastening.
Presents really nicely, still very smart. Ready to wear.
