1970s? Vintage homemade costume dept jacket with bird damask and antique velvet puffed sleeves
1970s look, but age uncertain! I purchased this from the lovely Liz Eggleston, but true to form have never actually worn it..
A rather bohemian look, very vintage am-dram wardrobe department.. maybe As You Like It?!
Great fabric and colours. Main body of jacket is a rich brocade with a Jacobean inspired weave featured flowers and exotic birds. Full sage green cotton velvet to sleeves and inner of the upstand collar. Pleated sleeve head gathered on to shirt width cuff.
Interior seems to be lined with whatever was in stock: a thick rich satin and a tonal stiped green cotton blend. Homemade, interior is fairly crude/quickly constructed with lots of hand stitching. Possibly remade with much earlier velvet jacket/ yoke and sleeves as base? Satin lined to main body.
Heavily puffed sleeves gathered into deep cuffs.
Looks great on!
Shoulder across seam to seam 14” - I’d say a 10/12
Nape to hem 25” plus 1” stand collar
Bust 40” edge to edge front
Shoulder to hem sleeve 25”
Age spots and some fade to velvet (worst inside stand collar and sleeve creases, odd buttons loops which look to have been replaced from original double fastening), spot to front as shown also.
Still clean and wearable as is with no damage, but certainly not a perfect thing.
