Antique oriental finely embroidered scarf or collar textile piece
It’s not quite forbidden stitch, but a very carefully done piece of work. This clearly has some age when you look more closely, I’d say early 20th century at least?
Oriental textiles are not my field, but this looks to have been previously used on a garment perhaps? It is a very fine wool, and there is evidence of a couple of old threads - plus the odd unfinished edge which suggests it may have been attached to something else originally, as a collar perhaps.
It is long enough that it could be used as a scarf, or even a decorative runner - or just displayed and admired as I have!
8.5” wide x
40” long not inc tassels of 4” x2 - (so 48” in total end to end)
It has been stored well so colours are still bright. A couple of tiny holes along fold. It smells very faintly of camphor if you sniff it, but not offensive (not an overwhelming mothball scent!)
Missing central bunch of tassels to one end. Sold as antique.
