antique regency 1820s style white sprigged muslin gown or day dress - teens? - costume?
More from a selection of antique costume that I purchased a while ago. It's very much Regency in style and fabric, but I’m sure if it's a century later as costume? It came with some other early stuff. It's very simple in design and construction, and fastens with brass hooks and eyes to the rear.
This is really quite small, so I think perhaps for a young teen. Kate Greenaway style perhaps? It could however be worn by a petite adult but be aware sleeves and bust are small - I’m more posting for interest as a textile!
Empire line and simple scoop neckline. Puffed sleeves with banded cuffs. I can't decide if its mainly hand or machine stitched; please see close ups. I think it’s tiny hand stitches..
Measures:
Bust 32" max
Waist -
Hips -
Length from shoulder to hem 44"
Sleeve circ at cuff max 8 1/2"
Condition:
I have carefully handwashed. A few marks remain but overall its very presentable. The hem had been taken up and then let down - the odd rub to bottom edge of material at longer length. I've removed stray tacking thread. Small line in weave in places where it had been taken up.
Very old repair to front hem, small pull to back near hooks and eyes, scattered small brownish (iron mould) stains. Overall appearance is generally clean, however.
