Vintage late 1930s to 1940s novelty Egyptian revival print smock top or blouse
I liked everything about this, from the slightly garish colour way, to the novelty print (which gives you everything from scarabs to pharaohs), to the original buttons. Best of all I liked not having to write a lengthy condition report, as the only flaws I could find were a scuff to a tiny spot on the pocket fabric, and some slight crazing to the surface of the buttons!
French style seams to front and back yoke, gathered beneath. Small pointed collar, fairly full sleeves into single buttoned cuffs. Single patch pocket front left.
No labels. I’ve seen an old St Michael version with a slightly different Egyptian revival design, but there’s no evidence of any old labels anywhere. Could very well be proficiently home made - if so construction is excellent.
Measures: loose fit but bear in mind fairly narrow shoulders despite roomy bust and hips -shown unclipped on a uk8
Bust 42” gathered
Waist n/a
Hips up to 46” max
Length from nape to hem approx 33”
shoulder seam to seam 14”
underarm to cuff 17.5”
Condition:
As above. Very good, clean and ready to wear - appears to have been little used.
