Late 1920s to 1930s black velvet opera cape with ruching and smocking to shoulders
Later 1920s to 1930s black velvet opera cape, with padded collar and smocked shoulders - ivory satin lining. Could potentially have been shortened? But definitely an adult size (old 40 tag at neckline). A good wearable length, and I know it’s black which is terrible to post online but it’s just so useful that I can’t help myself..
Nicely padded and ruched collar can be worn up or down. Fastens with single original velvet covered ball button and loop to neckline.
Interior lined in an ivory manmade satin, with internal patch pocket and self fabric straps for the wrists to keep body of cape in place when worn/in use. Additional hanger straps to neckline.
Measures:
Shoulder to hem length approx 23”
Width around shoulders max approx 44” laid flat (22” flat across at shoulder height)
Condition: immediately wearable as it comes.
A couple of small flattened areas of pile to the front. Small slightly lighter spot to collar as shown.
Lining has some age darkening inside shoulder areas and the odd spot but nothing dark or obvious. Please see all photos.
