Late 1930s black bias cut crepe evening or dinner dress with cerise cyclamen corsage
An elegant dress in black crepe, with draped bodice onto inverted V shaped seaming at high waist, with draped bias cut skirt section beneath.
Beautiful fabric corsage to right shoulder/bodice, with cerise clusters of cyclamen and greenery gives added interest.
Typical of the period, it features padded shoulders, with fine cartridge pleating details to sleeve head and centre hem. Puffed sleeves end in a band at the upper arm. Slight fishtail to back hemline gives a dinner dress feel.
No closures, simply slips over the head with the bias cut - so do check measurements for bust/hip as it's quite slim fitting.
Measures: XS to S
Condition:
Generally very good, just cleaned and immediately wearable.
Appears to have possibly been adjusted to make smaller at cb seam - see photos - but does not affect overall cut (there is a small amount of allowance at back waist of approx 1” if necessary).
A couple of small grazes to the fabric as shown, and a few missing stitches to the bottom of the gathered nape detail etc (shown), neither of which affect wear or are overly noticeable.
Underarm seams appear to have been reinforced historically, but its only really evident if you hunt for it. Please see close ups.
