Radley 1970s Ossie Clark era vintage moss crepe dress with chiffon
1970s black moss crepe and chiffon labelled Radley dress. This is often cited as an Ossie design, it’s the fountain label era. I’ve had it a few times over the years.
The design features bias cut to both chiffon and crepe, giving a corseted appearance where the materials meet.
Gathered chiffon yoke gathered on to a frilled drawstring neckline, echoed at the capped sleeves. Strong 30s influence as you’d expect, with (working) covered button and loop fastening to front - this is the only opening.
Princess seams to body back and front give a flattering 1930s shape. Original overlocked skirt hem.
Condition: clean and wearable but when you look closely there are a scattering of minor issues, which I’ve photographed.
- various small seam pulls to chiffon as shown but all wearable as is.
- Historic darn to back seam to high waist as shown. Slight fade to button fronts? Looks worse in my photos.
- Shoulder and neck frills have some hand stitching to edge so probably restitched, but style is as original from memory.
- Neckline ribbon tie is replacement, as original was missing.
Measures:
bust 34” max into chiffon
High waist 25”
Hips 38”
Shoulder to hem 45” approx
