Vintage 1940s style navy and white printed day dress - maternity ? or adjust belt!
I have shown this clipped and unclipped, to demonstrate the different ways you could wear it. With button and loop closure, feature frilled collar and wide bishop style sleeves, it is unfitted at the front which makes me wonder if it was meant for maternity use? Or simply a looser fit. It’s very comfortable! There is a half belt to rear which as is gives a looser fit, but could easily be shortened if you wished to cinch in the waistline.
I purchased this originally in an unfinished state with the raw edges to the sleeves and hem. I don’t believe it was ever worn. I have had cuff bands with snap closures added, and the hem of the dress has been hand stitched.
I must admit I wasn’t 100% on dating with this one. Yes, it does look older - the buttons etc. are of the period, and it’s entirely handfinished internally.. but I had a sneaking suspicion it might be a 1970s version. Either way it’s a very nice dress, and I love the collar detail!
Bust 40” comfortably
Hips 52” max
Length from nape to hem approx 45”
underarm to cuff 17”
The only real floor I could find was a small white-ish mark next to the button placket at the front. Please see photo.
