Vintage Andre Dallioux silk velvet clutch bag or purse with monogram MM
I think this is late 40s, from quality Parisian maker Andre Dallioux.
An elegant velvet clutch, with monogram MM (unfortunately think a Marilyn link would be stretching it!)
The base is a lozenge shaped goldtone metal, with black cold enamel detail. The upper is made from what feels like a silk velvet, envelope style.
It fastens with a single snap to the centre which is marked with a patent.
Interior is a silk satin, printed with makers name. One large inner compartment, three small mirror/comb pockets.
Measures:
7 1/4” wide at base / 8 1/4” across top
5” high
just under 2” front to back
Condition: Good and useable, but not perfect as a number of minor issues. All issues shown in photographs
- Cold enamel has been repaired in places (all shown)
- some rub to edges of velvet flap
- two ridges/lines in velvet to back top flap
- wear to finish of female snap
It’s still a pretty stylish thing - there’s a wonderful bag by the same designer in the Met museum.
