Vintage Berman’s and Nathan’s stage costume from Anything Goes - Hope Harcourt
Wonderfully well made costume from Berman’s and Nathan’s, for the lead Hope Harcourt in a professional 1980s production of Cole Porter’s musical Anything Goes (I looked it up and it was the Prince Edward Theatre I think, score by Tim Rice/Elaine Paige).
It’s been made using earlier materials, the panne velvet is faded but I’ve a feeling it already was! It is a costume, but I think I would wear the jacket as an everyday thing.. love the sleeves!
Condition wise I am selling as is, it’s wearable but very clearly a used stage costume with multiple minor flaws!
Jacket does have some light brown staining to shoulders and one sleeve, and fade to velvet as shown, and requires a stitch to back hem. No closures, made to hang open - shown with dress clip so it didn’t slide of mannequin (included).
Minimal marks to underarm lining, its otherwise very wearable. Weighted hem, crepe lined.
Dress upper is very good, fairly minimal underarm marks not obvious due to colour of silk satin. Lower hemline/train is watermarked and needs stitching to hem. Base of zipper placket needs a stitch. Metal zip works fine.
Jacket (I tried it on and ok for 10/12!)
Shoulder seam to seam approx 15”
open front and flared shape so quite flexible bust and waist etc.
upper arm total circ. not bad! - approx 12”
Shoulder to hem approx 26”
Bust 36” approx
Hips approx 20”
Length from shoulder to hem at front approx 52”
Condition: As above.
